Learning from Disruption, Healing Forward
Student-Centered Learning for Equity 2021, held from May 18-27, 2021, came at a critical time: More than a year into a pandemic that upset a status quo already failing so many, when a new future appeared ever closer.
We resolved to learn from the disruption—find opportunity in it—recognize the harm and trauma it brought, and leave the event on a healing path.

Dr. Pedro Noguera
At the event kickoff, Dr. Pedro Noguera—national education equity expert—delivered a keynote on learning from disruption and not simply returning to what was. There were also student musical performances and a short documentary on student experiences during the pandemic.
Zitkana Duta Win
After days of virtual breakout sessions, Zitkana Duta Win (Randilynn Boucher-Giago)—educator, artist, and relative—delivered a keynote on healing forward as we processed a year of disruption, then moderated a student panel.
